Fan Created Rides: Let's Paint it Orange! - Wannabe 01 General Lees

Warning: Sarcasm and BS ahead. Ever wanted to be like Bo and Luke off the Dukes of Hazzard? But can't seem to find a 1969 Dodge Charger suitable for conversion? Well the wait is over. I'm going to tell you how these fine folks featured in this post managed to 'live the dream'. But before we get to the pictures. Let me fill you in how the system works.

It's simple really. Years of research have determined that it's a scientific fact that if you paint your car orange and place a 01 logo on each door it will increase your car's performance 100% percent. That's right. Your car will drive faster, have sloppy steering and jump higher. The confederate flag and General Lee logos are optional. However you can increase your drag coefficient by adding a large CB antenna to the trunk lid. Go ahead and hook up a CB to that antenna so you can talk to your Cousin Daisy and Uncle Jessie back at the farm. For protection, arm yourself with a good bow and arrow. Maybe a little bit of TNT. Don't forget the push bar on the front. Wouldn't wanta get stuck in a pile of cop cars.

Alright. Enough with the BS. Seriously there are some interesting vehicles out there that have had the treatment. But I'm not sure if it was done for 'performance' reasons. It was just done because it's cool. Nothing like the classic orange paint job and 01 lettering. There's no doubt about it, ya do it to show your love and support of the Dukes of Hazzard. Some just show it a little more than others. Let's see those pictures!

Sometimes half is just as good.

No car? But ya got a van. No problem!

I'm thinking the turbo is doing them a little more good than the paint job.

Oh no. It's the Dukes of Fallujah!

Don't worry we'll get ya to the airport on time Mr. President!

I like what has been done here. Note the winch on the front and the exhaust stacks with flappers. The car bra is total win too!

Someone converted a love bug. This one's not getting the Herbie Treatment Package.

Down and Dirty Racing!

"Let me plug back in before you chase me Roscoe. It'a just take a few hours. Don't wanta miss the big jump!"

I'm sure Boss Hogg got a little bit of envy when he saw this. That white Caddy isn't near this long. Could ya throw bull horns on the front?

Got luggage? I've got rack!

Daisy wanted to join the boys. Plus she was tired of freezing her buns off in the winter (note the hard top).

Sometimes you just can't cover an original.

Dirt 3 - Gymkhana Gameplay

I'm sure you've spent hours hovering over the replay of Ken Block's Gymkhana videos. I know we have. If you're not familiar with rally/stunt car driver Ken Block, check out his video below. Just so much going on. The man is a drifting genius. Makes you wanta get right out there and fire up your Ford Fiesta and give it a go? Well that's about where the fantasy ends. Seriously, how many of us could soup up their ride with all the mods necessary and still drive it work everyday. But maybe there's an alternative way to experience Gymkhana. Enter the latest installment of the Dirt 3 off-road racing game.

Dirt 3 offers a huge world of different off-road racing modes. But the one we're gonna look at today is the Gymkhana mode. The game offers an intense training program for you to learn the art of Gymkhana. You'll master the drifting skills necessary to do some of the tricks Ken does in real life. Then once you're ready. You'll move on to the Play Ground. On Play Ground, you're free to go wild. You can challenge your friends by setting the clock and see who can do the most moves in the time aloud. This open ended form of game play makes for some interesting gaming parties. Reminds me of sitting around with the guys goofing around on GTA (non-mission mode). This time with a little more purpose. Till next time. Keep your tires in check.

Famous Movie Cars As Pixar Characters

Imagine your favorite movie cars as Pixar characters! Well the guys over at Next Movie commissioned Old Red Jalopy (a poster designer) to anthropomorphically redesign seven famous movie cars as Cars 2 characters! Seven famous movie cars were Pixarized (is that even a word?). Not sure. But I agree with NextMovie.com, I too smell a concept for some interesting sequel material! Listen up Pixar and Cars fans!

All of the cars feature eyes on their windshields just like the regular Pixar Cars characters. Each of them have a unique smile and facial expression. I like how the artist took the time to make each car special. I can start to see voices and personalities forming in my head for some of the cars. However the pieces that really caught my eye were the Delorean Time Machine, The Batmobile, and Ecto 1! Check them out over at NextMovie.com! Hopefully Old Red Jalopy will have these posted on their site for public consumption too! See ya next time.

Monster Garage - Switchblade Lawnmower - 1990 Ford Mustang

Ah summertime chores. Time to bake in the hot sun while pushing a four wheeled cart with a motor and rotating blade. Inching yourself closer to a cold refreshing drink that awaits. What if it could be done easier? Most people would say getting a riding model would do the trick. "Why push when you can ride?" For some that's just not enough. The folks on Monster Garage took that idea one step further and said why not ride in style? Then through magic of television one of the world's fastest and if not flashest lawnmower was built. The Switchblade!

You may recall this beast from the very first episode of Monster Garage. Chopper builder and host Jessie James assembles a team of fabricators and offers them the challenge of building the world's fastest lawnmower. The goal was to build a car that appears stock and the could mow a field at nearly 100 mph. The team was issued a vehicle and a few select parts. The rest will have to come from a budget of just $3000 dollars. Not to mention they will only have a few days to complete the build.

The base car the team started with was a 1990 Ford Mustang GT convertible. The GT that year came with the infamous 302 ci, 5.0 Liter V8 with an automatic transmission. The car did look like it had seen better days. The gas tank was yanked out, relocated and upgraded with a racing fuel cell. In the factory gas tank location was outfitted with a 48 inch triangular mowing deck built by Delta. In the trunk a 10hp Briggs and Stratton lawnmower powered the giant blades. Three additional cylindrical rotating blades were placed strategically through out the car to help cut the grass while moving at high speeds.

Looks a little dangerous for the driver huh?

With everything packed away the car looked stock. However that doesn't mean it wasn't styling and profiling. A candy lime green metal flake paint job with a flame job and new convertible top really set it off. The crew put some nice looking 20 inch gold Enzo wire wheels. With it all put together they completed their challenge and won the tools. By the way, this wouldn't be the last project to use these wheels. See our article about the Mobile Donut Shop. Another successful Monster Garage episode! That wasn't end of fame for the car. Reports show the car was later featured and sold on Barret-Jackson for a sum of $7300 dollars (a steal!). We did some more research and found the car is now part of the Volo Auto Museum in Volo IL. Don't work too hard and checkout some of the great Monster Garage products below.

Uncle Buck - 1975 Mercury Marquis Brougham

Last minute arrangements leave you under the care and supervision of John Candy's character Uncle Buck. Sounds like a party doesn't? Well maybe not if you're Tina a teenage high schooler portrayed by Jean Louisa Kelly. But for good reason. Uncle Buck is going to be driving you around in his beat up float boat, brown turd looking street cruising machine for all your friends to see. He'll drive you to school in all it's smoking glory. That's right OnScreenCars.com is proud to present Uncle Bucks's pride and joy the mighty fine 1975 Mercury Marquis. Hold your ears and wait for the bang! But let's rewind time a little bit and look at what Uncle Buck or the previous owner may have started with.

"Bug: Ever hear of a tune-up? Hee hee hee hee hee. Buck: Ah, heh heh heh. Ever hear of a ritual killing? Ah, heh heh heh heh heh Bug: I don't get it. Buck: You gnaw on her face in public like that again and you'll be one. Ah, heh heh heh heh! "

From the factory the 1975 Mercury Marquis was your typical big american land yacht of a car. The Marquis was the sister car to the Ford LTD. While the boys in blue hauled the bad boys in the Ford, business-persons where being floated along down the street in luxury. 1975 was the first year of the luxurious Grand Marquis trim level. Two engines were available this year, 460 V8 Ford BB and 400 V8 from the Cleveland family. No shortage of power to move this beast around. Something noteworthy, this was the first year for catalytic converters. This was nearing the end of an era of gas drinking beasts. Not to mention the mid-dawn of cautious insurance companies and strict government regulations. Dispite all of that mess the Mercury Marquis was voted over Olds 98 LS and Cadillac's Sedan de Ville in 1975, 1976. Check out this great video of a pristine looking 1975 Mercury Marquis. Now to clear up any confusion.

"Stand me up today and tomorrow I'll drive you to school in my robe and pajamas and WALK you to your first class. 4:00 okay?" - Uncle Buck

Uncle Buck's car was a base model four-door Mercury Marquis Brougham not a Grand Mercury Marquis. Complete with smoking exhaust, back firing V8, ripped up interior, banged up body, large CB ball mount antenna on the rear driver's quarter panel and CB radio sticking out of the glove box. Let's not forget about years of dust and dirt coating the exterior of the car. I love the classic scene (see the clip below) of Uncle Buck dropping his niece Tina off at high school. The car comes smoking furiously down the street as it turns into the drop off lane. Kids are coughing and gagging on the exhaust flumes. All the while Buck is paused and waiting for that magical back fire that sounds like a cannon going on. Then BOOM! Everyone hits the ground like their being shot at. If that doesn't embarrassed you nothing will.

Just a classic scene. There were some other notable scenes from the movie involving the car. But much more of the same and I'm out of time today. But look forward to seeing more from us here at OnScreenCars.com!
